Film Festival Success

Our 4th annual Skyway Film Festival was a great success! with around 75 in attendance throughout the night it looks like we have officially outgrown our humble studio! Next year we should look forward to a larger venue and a possible Alumni Festival as well!

The big winner for the night was Cade Lirocchi’s “A Wolf at My Door” a great thriller horror film that had our audience on edge all night!
James Reynov placed a very close second place throughout most categories for his first film “cLOVEs” a vampire love story.
Dereck Hoekstra astounded everyone with his work in three amazing documentaries this year, as well as being a constant mentor and example to everyone in the department he was awarded the Outstanding Filmmaker award this year.

Thank you to all of our judges this year. This year the films were judges by 5 individualy with a range on industry experience.

Be sure to check out our film festival this year as we premier 4 great films as well as showcase 6 shorts created by our Intro and Art of Film classes. Free popcorn and drinks will be there for everyone.

This year we have a large diverse group of artists and filmmakers judging the contest so filmmakers can look forward to some great feedback!

Scriptwriting Success!

Congratulations to James Reynoy for a first place finish in the Cross Wind student screen writing contest!

James stunned the judges with his touching story “Sleeping Rough”.

The production company will be giving James a cash prize as well as shooting a scene of his film.

Congratulations James! We are very proud of what you have accomplished and we can’t wait to see what other great scripts you produce!

SI Doc Fest Update

Last Saturday we had 3 Students win awards at the Festival held at the Camera12 theatre in Downtown San Jose. Two groups Allie Regan, Alyssa Stockman and Dereck Hoekstra placed in the top ten finalist, winning cash for the charities that they represented. Dereck also won an award for filmmaking excellence. Our teacher Mr. Marshall also was awarded with the Terry McElhatton award for having the most entries from a single school. This is a great honor as the award is named after our late friend and teacher and mentor who was one of the primary supporters of the festival in its first year.

This Friday Dec. 4th be sure to wish our intro students luck as they send out their 2 minute previews for the Bay Area Social Issues Documentary Film Festival. This is the 3rd year that we have taken part in this festival and we hope that we will have students win awards this year as in previous years.
